Our Little Peanut's Eventful Day!

Yesterday, the 17th, Maxim had his 9 month checkup. He measured in at the 75th percentile for weight and height again at 22 pounds 12 ounces and 28 and 3/4 inches. He had his last Hepatitis vaccination and we chatted with the nurse practicioner about sleeping habits, diet, and milestones. Which led us to the dreaded topic of adding some peanut butter to his diet with close monitoring.

Excited to try out some new things, after dinner, we gave Max about a 1/2 teaspoon of peanut butter on bread that he LOVED! When I was cleaning him up with a warm washcloth, he started scratching his big, beautiful belly. That was followed by his cheeks getting red and rashy to which I called Kary and then his lower right side of his lip swelled. I googled what to do and the swelling prompted us to call 911.

The paramedics showed up about 2 minutes after we called. Max started breaking out in hives and we were then on our way to the ER at Rady's Children's Hospital in the ambulance. Maxim was so happy playing with the EMTs stethoscope and the cables that were attached to his toes monitoring his oxygen level and pulse.
At the hospital, he charmed the nurses with his smile (even with the swollen lip!) and was given benadryl and a steroid shot. His symptoms started to disappear and we were able to take the little guy home around 8:30pm.

Needless to say, our little peanut has a peanut allergy! We now have Epi-Pens that we have to carry with us in case he has a serious reaction.
